Annette Kennedy
About the artist…
Since 2003 Annette has been creating pictorial art quilts that incorporate hand dyed, painted and commercial fabrics, paint and thread, based on photographs she has taken. Her work focuses mainly on nature, including landscapes and flora, but also includes some architectural pieces.
Her art quilt tops are first created by fusing fabrics to a base fabric. Then she enhances the image with transparent and opaque textile paints to increase the visual depth and to add details. The stitching is then done to hold the top, batting and backing together and to add texture. The end product looks like a cross between a quilt and a painting. Her goal is to express her personal experience with a place or subject in a way that gives beauty, peacefulness and a sense of awe to those who view it.
Annette has won many local and national awards, including the Best Wall Quilt Purchase Award at the American Quilter's Society's national show in Paducah, KY in 2009 with her quilt Mountain Chapel, which is of the Saint Catherine Chapel in Allenspark, CO. That quilt is now part of the permanent collection of the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY. Many of her pieces are in private collections across the country. Annette taught her techniques around the country for 10 years but now focuses on creating her own work. She continues to provide an online workshop: Painted Pictorial Quilts, at Craftsy.com.
A recent move from Colorado to the Austin, TX area will be bringing new inspiration for her works!
