Karly Schlievert
About the artist…
Karly “k-scheezy” Schlievert is a sculptural artist from south/central Texas. She was born in Corpus Christi but spent her adolescence in San Marcos where she then attended Texas State University. Karly received a BFA in Ceramics and completed a minor in Gender Studies, which often influences the conceptual side of their work. She often uses mixed media and has a distinct style that translates across both 2D and 3D concepts.
k-scheezy’s ongoing series, Fed Up Femmes, is inspired by the ways in which feminine-presenting people express themselves individually. The colorful ceramic sculptures represent how it feels to be a feminine-presenting person and the contrast of wanting to look and feel fabulous while being fed up with the ever-present consumption and judgment of the male gaze. The figures wear their individuality with pride while refusing to subscribe to performative expectations of posing or smiling for the viewer.
After completing her bachelor’s degree in the midst of a global pandemic, Karly now has a studio space at Eye of the Dog Art Center in San Marcos. You can find their work at the San Marcos Art Center, at Art Squared in San Marcos, as well as on Instagram @kscheezy
